Flexicon Marks 40th Year with 91,000 Sq Ft Expansion

BETHLEHEM, PA — Flexicon marked its 40 year anniversary with completion of the 91,000 sq ft (8,500 m2) building envelope that doubles the size of its US headquarters, it was announced by David Gill, president. "With walls, roof and floor now complete, and mechanical systems underway, we are on track to fully occupy the space by March of this year," says Gill.

The new facility will increase the size of the company's Steel Forming, Welding, Grinding/Polishing and Blasting/Painting Departments two-fold and the Electrical Controls Department four-fold. The Assembly Department will be eight-times larger, and provide 38 ft (11.6 m) of ceiling clearance for Factory Acceptance Testing of larger systems.

Office space will also expand to a total of 37,000 sq ft (3400 m2), housing executive offices, six conference rooms, the Electrical Engineering Department and meeting/training rooms with 400-seat capacity.

"Doubling the size of our US Headquarters is a fitting way to mark Flexicon's anniversary and exponential growth," explains Gill.

The company was formed by William S. Gill who began manufacturing flexible

screw conveyors, which by 1988 reached eight inches (20 cm) in diameter, an industry first. Other major introductions include Bulk-Out® bulk bag unloaders and weigh batching versions in 1993, Twin-CenterpostTM bulk bag fillers in 1995, Pneumati-Con® pneumatic conveying systems in 2002, Swing-Down® bulk bag fillers in 2004, Split-Frame Bulk-Out® Bulk Bag Unloaders in 2005, Block-Buster® Hydraulic Bulk Bag Conditioners in 2007, Tip-Tite®Drum/Box/Container Dumpers in 2009 and Flexi-Disc® Tubular Cable Conveyors in 2013.

Today, the company holds 36 patents in 13 countries, has operations in the UK, Australia, South Africa, Chile and Singapore, and produces hundreds of models of Flexible Screw Conveyors, Tubular Cable Conveyors, Pneumatic Conveying Systems, Bulk Bag Dischargers, Bulk Bag Conditioners, Bulk Bag Fillers, Bag Dump Stations, Drum/Box/Container Dumpers, and Weigh Batching Systems. A separate Project Engineering Division manages large-scale bulk handling projects across the chemical, mineral, food, dairy and pharmaceutical industries worldwide.

The FLEXI-DISC™ Tubular Cable Conveyor represents the third conveying technology developed by FLEXICON. After years of research and development, FLEXICON is pleased to announce the latestaddition to our product line. The FLEXI-DISC™Tubular Cable Conveyor represents the third conveying technology developed by FLEXICON. The FLEXI-DISC has been highly engineered and thoroughly proven to simultaneously deliver unsurpassed efficiency, durability and product handling. It gently conveys friable materials of disparate sizes with little degradation or separation of blends. Its design allows single or multiple inlets and outlets and the routing of conveyor tubing horizontally, vertically and at any angle. The FLEXI-DISC is available in both 4” and 6” diameters to provide a wide range of conveying rates. The FLEXI-DISC tubular cable conveyor slides bulk materials through smooth steel tubing using low-friction polymer discs attached to stainless steel or galvanized cable. Material enters the convey line via an inlet adapter and settles into the pocket between a pair of discs. The discs circulate through the conveyor, gently transporting the pockets of material to their destination.

Vortex Valves New Equipment Offering

Salina, KS – Vortex is pleased to announce the addition of dust free loadout equipment to its current line of slide gates and diverter valves. Vortex Loading Solutions will offer a product mix of retractable loading spouts, positioners and loading spout filtration systems to load and convey dry bulk materials in various applications including rail cars, semi-tankers, open trucks, barges and stock piling.
The additional product line is a result of Vortex's recent acquisition of PMC Unlimited. Their loading spouts and filters allow facilities to meet EPA standards and cut down on waste. Optional positioners are used to guide loading spouts to multiple tractor-trailers or rail cars. The vehicle can remain stationary while the positioner seamlessly guides the spout to distribute the material evenly. Products are engineered to be dust tight in dry bulk material applications.
“Adding loadout equipment is a natural product extension for our customers as our valves are often found on loadout systems. The acquisition of PMC combined with our established sales network provides an immediate opportunity in the global market,” says Jeff Thompson, Vortex CEO & President. “PMC has proven it has the product knowledge and application experience to properly meet customer expectations.”
